Professional Experience
Edgar Castro concentrates his business on government relations and lobbying in South Florida and Tallahassee. Since joining Becker & Poliakoff, Mr. Castro has successfully advocated for issues addressing the needs of businesses, associations, municipalities and The Florida Bar before various government agencies and the state legislature. His clients rely on him to offer strategic advice and to help them access government and elected officials. Mr. Castro assists in advancing his clients political and legislative agenda by monitoring their issues and lobbying in favor of and sometimes against legislation and regulations that impact their various industries. He has helped pass budget appropriation requests and has experience passing controversial legislation, including claims relief bills.

Prior to joining Becker & Poliakoff, P.A., Mr. Castro resided in Washington D.C., where he was a legislative accounts consultant for a government relations and management company. He was responsible for researching and analyzing State and Federal legislative actions and making recommendations to help clients effectively respond to governmental opportunities while avoiding potential risks. He has a great deal of experience in issues relating to financial institutions and insurance companies including, for example, Consumer Privacy, Security Breach, Identity Theft, and Public Records Exceptions among a myriad of other issues.

Mr. Castro began his political career in Tallahassee working in the Governor's office and as a Legislative Assistant for The Florida House of Representatives. As a legislative assistant, he helped direct the Representative's agenda and testified in front of various House Committees. Mr. Castro's experience as a legislative assistant taught him the intricacies of the legislative process, committee procedures and helped him build strong ties to members of both chambers and parties. In addition, Mr. Castro has worked on numerous political campaigns in Florida, including for candidates in the U.S. House and Senate, Florida House and Senate and The Miami Dade Board of County Commissioners.
